Owned by SOBE visionary and pioneer Mark Soyka (of SoykaNews Cafe, and the very missed Van Dyke Cafe) this reimagined gem sits beaming just waiting to be discovered. I don’t know about you, but I can’t remember the last time I dined at a remodeled 1923 former fresh-water pump house. Walking up to Cafe Roval, I felt eager to explore every inch of this historic location.

It was another of those lovely Miami nights….no humidity, a warm soft breeze and walking into the barely 2-month-old Café Roval just off Biscayne and 54th felt like I had traveled many days to this green oasis of coral, wood, lush vegetation and small pools and ponds.

Mark Soyka Says His Latest Project, Cafe Roval, Is His Last

January 24, 2017

In 1998, Mark Soyka was driving somewhere between Miami Shores and Aventura on Biscayne Boulevard when he spotted a familiar hooker. Until just a few months earlier, she had worked in the empty lot next door to the then-54-year-old's eponymous restaurant at the nexus of Little Haiti, Morningside, and the Design District.

The who: Miami restaurateur Mark Soyka branches out after a 15 year hiatus with the opening of his newest concept, Cafe Roval. Soyka has tapped Nuno Grullon (R House) to run the kitchen. The space: At a historic coral pump house in Morningside, just down the street from his namesake restaurant, Soyka employs that same industrial-luxe feel he pioneered so well at his namesake restaurant.

Mark Soyka is a man of many repertoires. He's been molding the Miami restaurant scene since the creators of Instagram were still in diapers, back when every lunch didn't get a photoshoot. And after a 15 year hiatus, he's back.
